BEAR’s Grab-A-Grad February Coffee Hours!

Sign up for the first “Grab-a-Grad Coffee Hours” of the semester! Sponsored by PitE Club’s BEAR Mentorship Program, join a small group coffee hour with some of the finest environmental grad students around! This month, 3 graduate students in a variety of fields will hold coffee hours at your favorite campus spots.

New Year, New Semester, New Post

And we’re back at it and in the swing of things!

The Meeting Minutes from the first two meetings of the semester are now up. If you couldn’t make it to a meeting a quick look here will get you caught up.

PiTE Club will be hosting a Valentines Day Bake Sale in Dana Commons on Febuary 14th from 11-3pm.
If you would like to bake or work the event please sign-up here. If you are unable to do either please swing by and support this PiTE Club, as there is sure to be yummy treats for all.

PitE Club’s BEAR Mentorship Potluck

Come one, come all! And bring something yummy to eat and share.

This will be PitE Club’s last BEAR event for the semester, so you sure don’t want to miss it!

When: Wednesday December 5th (6-8pm)
Where:  Dana Commons
Who: This event is open to ALL PitE students (majors, minors, “maybes” and environmentally-focused grad students)
What: Come eat great food, talk with fellow PitErs, SNREds, and other environmentally-focused grads in a relaxed, informal gathering.

BEAR’s Grab-a-Grad December Coffee Hours – Sign up here!

PitE Club’s BEAR Mentorship Program announces “Grab-a-Grad” – a small group coffee hour with some of the finest environmental grad students around! This month, 4 graduate students in a variety of fields will hold coffee hours on campus.

Read about their different backgrounds and interests, and sign-up to participate at their various coffee hours. Talk about what’s on your mind or theirs – this is a great, informal way to network, get advice, and establish new connections in the PitE/SNRE Community. And don’t worry about that cup of joe – it’s on us!

Emily is in SNRE studying Landscape Architecture. She has interned at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Hawksbill Sea Turtle Recovery Project, as well at Dartmouth Natural Resources Trust working in their Land Trust Division. Work experience includes land management at American Family Insurance National Headquarters, Quality Assurance in Radiology software for Epic (electronic medical records company), and Landscaping and Water Quality Testing for Buzzards Bay Coalition in New Bedford, MA.

Emily is involved in the U of M Triathlon Club, SASLA (Student version of the American Society of Landscape Architects), and SNRE Student Government (Landscape Architecture department representative).

Viktor is an Erb student (MBA and SNRE) with with a concentration in Sustainability Strategy and Supply Chain Management. Before grad school, he traveled around Western Europe and the Middle East.

Prior to grad school, he worked as a Strategy Consultant at Accenture. He interned with the Environmental Defense Fund in its Corporate Partnerships Program and with Cisco in its Emerging Markets Supply Chain organization. Viktor’s SNRE Master’s Project is with Dow Water & Process Solutions.

Viktor’s favorite sports in AA are rock climbing and racquetball, and he volunteers with Greening Detroit and Habitat for Humanity.

Parrish is dual-enrolled in SNRE for Policy and Urban Planning for Land Use and Environmental Planning. She served in the Peace Corps in Honduras in municipal development. She has worked at the Federal Trade Commission as a paralegal and international technical assistance and for the CIty of Ann Arbor’s Transportation Planning. Additionally, she did research for the National Association of Development Organizations.

Parrish likes cycling, rock climbing, running, and cooking. In 2004-05 she biked across the U.S. to raise money for affordable housing programs. She has been to London, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Argentina, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the Netherlands.

Ryan is a second year SNRE student focusing on Environmental Policy & Justice. Ryan served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Dominican Republic working on agroforestry projects, zero waste, reforestation, garden groups and environmental education. He also volunteered in Ecuador and helped establish an organic graden in an indigenous community and has worked as a Spanish Translator at a non-profit.

Ryan has GSI, research, work study, and intern experience from organic gradening to community organizing. He loves yoga, cooking -Thai and Indian especially!- and does worm composting. He is fluent in Spanish and can speak basic Haitian Kreyol.
